Mariawil Monastery - age-appropriate living in a historic setting, Baden (AG)

Intelligent building automation for comfort, efficiency and future-proof living in a listed building.

Renovation and new build - tradition meets technology

Behind the historic Mariawil chapel (built in 1662), the existing Redemptorist priests' home from 1923 was extensively renovated and the area was supplemented with two new buildings.

The result is 42 age-appropriate apartments for senior citizens, supplemented by a café and underground car park - realized by Hilfswerk Sankt Clemens of the Redemptorist Order.

With the completion of the new buildings Haus Ost and Haus West, the entire building automation system was raised to a modern, smart level - implemented with TWILINE - Swiss Made.

💡 Automated efficiency

TWILINE building automation automates, monitors and optimizes all central building functions - from lighting and shading to indoor climate and energy consumption.

This ensures sustainable energy efficiency ⚡, operational safety 🔒 and user comfort - reliably in daily operation.

Integrated functions:

- Central automation of lighting, shading and room climate
- Scene, room and time profiles for living and communal areas
- Energy-optimized automation sequences for efficient building operation
- Structured visualization and intuitive operation
- Interfaces for integrating additional systems and services
- Modular expandability for future requirements

⚙️ Technology that thinks for itself - orchestrated by TWILINE

The TWILINE system architecture connects the two new buildings to form a uniform, intelligently controlled building platform.

All central functions - lighting, shading, indoor climate and other technical systems - are controlled and automated in a coordinated manner. The result is optimized operating processes, reduced energy consumption and a high level of operational safety.

The technical dimensions of the installation are also clear to see:

Around 1520 data points control and monitor all of the building's functions.

Among other things, the following were installed

- TWILINE Bluebox web server control panels
- xBus gateways for system distribution
- light switching actuators
- shutter actuators for shading
- DALI gateways for lighting control
- sensor couplers for push-buttons and contacts
- presence detectors for automated lighting control
- weather stations for weather-dependent functions

All components are fully integrated into the modular TWILINE system architecture - durable, easy to maintain and expandable at any time.

🧠 Conclusion

The Mariawil Monastery project in Baden is a perfect example of how historic buildings and modern building technology can be intelligently combined.

With reliable, energy-efficient and scalable automation, TWILINE creates the technological basis for comfortable, safe and economical living in old age - sustainable, energy-efficient and future-proof.
